Short Family Break To Scotland | Isle Of Arran

A weekend break to The Isle of Arran

We have just returned from a short trip to the beautiful Isle of Arran; I still cannot get over how beautiful & picturesque this little Island is. I love how quiet it is, with no hustle and bustle, or no traffic lights and no roundabouts, with very little traffic .. just straight roads with incredible mountain views. I believe this crazy small island is known for being called Scotland in miniature; it’s the only place we have visited in Scotland, so far….I would quite happily up sticks and leave tomorrow and not come back, I have fallen in love with Arran!

The cottage we stayed in was down in the valley, totally secluded and about a 15 minutes drive away from anywhere, with incredible views outside views of the mountains & surrounded by sheep! I have never been anywhere that has no phone service before; it was a strange feeling not being able to pick your phone up send a message or even call a friend, you could get a phone signal in the town at Brodick. We did have wifi in the cottage, so we were not completely isolated.

I felt at peace in Arran, and we’re already planning our next trip for next year!

The beaches are so beautiful, and we have been to some fantastic beaches across Europe, but they don’t quite compare to the beauty of Arran, Sannox bay, it is stunning, with golden sands and crystal clear sea, surrounded by beautiful mountains. Just breathtaking views all over this island! What makes this beach even more unique is that it is accessible by stepping stones over the Sannox Burn.

What made this trip even more special is the reason behind why we chose to visit this beautiful little island in the first place. We’re feeling very honoured to have been a part of Dan’s sister’s wedding! And feeling proud, my daughter Lyndsay was asked to play and sing Hallelujah with her ukelele, as she walked down the aisle,  it was such a special and beautiful day filled with happiness and tears joy that we will never forget.

On our next visit, I want to take the boat trip from Lamlash to the Holy Isle, I believe this is £12 for a return trip I need to build up my courage for this though; I’m not a big fan of ferries let alone a little boat! The build-up to this trip I was feeling so anxious about the ferry and I honestly don’t know what all the fuss was about now!  I got told it was 55 minutes long so I just assumed that we would be on the water for the length of time… It wasn’t at all! The whole process was 55 minutes, from check-in to boarding and including exiting the ferry. The weather wasn’t great for our crossing, but the sea was flat! I’m pleased to say we experienced no rolling .. haha! I’m not quite ready for a cruise ship yet!

I can’t wait to be heading back up north to Ardrossan for our next adventure, there’ is so much more for us to explore  “Arran we’re coming for another adventure in the spring.”
