Lately, I have been feeling somewhat deflated & ever so slightly emotionally challenged, almost as if the dreaded winter blues have set in…
…It’s August !?! So what on earth is going on with the way I’m feeling?
I am guilty of being an overthinker…
…You know that feeling you get when you have lots of different things going on all at once, and you cannot switch off? Almost as if you’ve got a hamster running on a wheel in your head none stop…
…round and round!
With all the thoughts flying around in your head and with each one, you plan how and what to do! When I climb into bed, this is the worst time for overthinking for me. I am setting myself up for a shitty day, and If I don’t get enough sleep, I am awful the next day, grumpy and very snappy.
This is not great when I have to handle a reception desk, and people don’t wish to be greeted by a coffee deprived scary mombie.
What makes it worse is that the GUFF I am thinking about isn’t relevant, and these problems can easily be fixed with simple changes and adjustments. I’m not by any means saying this is the case for everyone – I’m on about the mum stuff, everyday mum life!
Housework,
And if you work full time like me, you have the bonus of then running through your separate work list and the work emotions that come with it, stress, and worry.
See what I mean..? GUFF (When something is a load of nonsense) that shouldn’t be keeping you awake at night only makes the following day HARDER, equaling one tired, emotionally challenged mamma.
So why are we torturing ourselves and continuously setting ourselves up for a shitty following day!
IT HAS TO STOP! Most importantly, what are we going to do about it?
The simple changes I have made recently are when winding down before bed on an evening, and I love nothing more than a hot shower with Radox relax lavender body wash and climbing into bed. Another helpful tip that is lovely to use before jumping into bed – Why not try a calming & soothing room and linen spray? Spritz it around your room and on your pillows.
I used to be terrible for falling asleep with the TV on. I have now stopped watching tv in bed, and the lights are not suitable for your eyes. The same goes for looking at your mobile phone. I am terrible at this, flicking through Instagram or scrolling through Facebook! The backlight can keep you awake at night.
There are many mobile phone apps out there that are great – it merely changes the display, so it’s gentler on your eyes and not as bright. However, I highly recommend you try Flux (it’s free), it can be used on your computer too, it adds a filter to your screen, it does help, we all use this in our house, and we even installed it on the kid’s devices.
So instead of settling in with whatever is currently trending on Netflix! I have found a new love for listening to soothing sounds, and rain is my favourite. You can get apps for this with lots of different sounds, whether you prefer calm, natural sounds or a good storm … There are millions! So if you have an Alexa like me, you don’t even have to use your phone to find them. Ask your dear friend Alexa.
I feel I am just about on top of all I need to be housework wise, and it feels great the past week.
I’m a bugger for stacking stuff that needs to be put away and piles of washing left for later or tomorrow… It never happens and gets out of control.
Managing to be on top of my laundry is a big deal for me. I have washed, dried, folded and put it all away, straight away! Another thing that’s helped me massively is I had three different large washing baskets .. why? By doing so, it was just making me have an endless stream of washing! I have recently just swapped them for one large 50LT basic laundry basket. What a difference, I have no mountain, and I’m keeping on top of it; hopefully, I will keep it up.
I have found that doing light cleaning each night has made a difference for us, for one I’m less stressed, two I’m giving the neighbours some peace from my mum tantrums when i get frustrated with all the mess and washing! Lol
Our house looks nice, and it feels great. Getting home from work on an evening to everything done already! So we can enjoy our weekend, have some downtime and feel relaxed and ready to battle Monday at work!
As for the work side of things – I’m working on it. But, I need to seriously think about want I want career-wise (That’s a whole new topic). Work gets left at work at the end of each day!
I spend as much time possible with the people I love, friends and family. I love hearing about their day.
If you surround yourself with happiness, you’ll feel happy; it does work.
I love quotes, especially happy quotes, and they do lift my mood. Here are a few of my favourites.
“Everyone wants happiness, nobody wants pain, but you can’t have rainbows without a little rain”.
“Take time to make your soul happy”.
“Do what makes you happy, be with those who make you smile, laugh as much as you breathe, love as long as you live”.
“Keep Choosing happiness daily, and happiness will keep choosing you back” – Fawn Weaver.
Selfcare is important we should always try to take a little time out for yourself each day. I know when you have kids, this is a rarity! Oh, mum is in the bath. Everyone suddenly needs the toilet! So do whatever it is you feel you need to do for yourself. As for everything else, it will still be there tomorrow! Always remember you’re doing a great job! check out my blog 10 Minute Self-care | Why self-care is important for busy mums

I too am a high over thinker and I can’t shut my brain off. Sometimes just taking a night off of life helps but when one little thing comes out that’s stressful, my mind just goes on and on for days.
my thoughts run so fast and I can barely keep up. it sometimes run faster when I’m already in bed. will definitely try to follow your tips. =)
My wife is definitely the over thinker in the house. I am for some things but for the most part I am a roll with the punches kind of person. This is a really good article. I will share with my wife.
My wife is like this. She might get 4 hours of sleep at night because of it. I am the exact opposite. I shut down completely for 6-7 hours a night. It’s really important to do that.
This is such a great post. I am a bit of a over thinker also, I get finished writing a blog and 10 minutes after posting it, I feel like I did a bad job. Thanks for sharing!
OMG I needed to read this! I have the hardest time falling asleep!
I am the same way! Always overthinking… but having a clean house does always make me feel better and helps me sleep better at night, too!
When my house is cluttered I can’t get anything done because my eyes fall on all the things that need to be done. This is an amazing post because I can identify with it so much.
This is such a challenge for me! Thanks for the great tips!
I have chronic insomnia but no hamster running in my brain. It’s more like my body can’t shut down. All great tips – I know I have read every book – and also good to leave a paper and pad by the bed and do a list for he things you want to do tomorrow before bed or add them if you wake up so that does not keep you awake.
Yes, yes I am an overthinker, unfortunately. Thank you for trying to help others and spreading positive vibes.
I’m the biggest over thinker and night time is my time to think unfortunately lol…. I’m definitely going to apply a few of your suggestions!
